NC deer hunters

How was the deer hunting in your part of the state?I hunt the mountais in the western part and southeast in Anson county, deer was very scarce this year, even though I managed to take a buck and a doe.
People that I talk to say the same thing, our club in the western part last year took 20 deer this year only 5,in Anson took 45 last year this year 18,after the first week in Anson you didn't see a deer or even any sign where they had been.Talked to several check in stations and meat processors and they said they had large drops in check ins and deer to process, most were 50% or less. But the ones I talked to that hunted in the eastern part say they saw plenty of deer.
I have hunted for over 50 yrs, took more than one deer per year as long as I can remember but this has been the worst year ever to even seeing a deer.

What part of Anson do you hunt,we have a club that joins the PD refuge.
I went to stag and doe to pick up my deer and asked the lady how her business was and she said she didn't have much of a business that noone was seeing any deer.Last year I seen deer every day I hunted could have killed 50 or more, but this year didn't see a deer in bow season, black powder and only 15 during the first week of the reg season, after the first week didn't see a deer, have 3 brothers that hunt with me and 1 got 1 deer the other got 2 and I got 2 ,the first week and the other didn't see a deer all year.
Hunted one day on the refuge and there wasn't any deer sign where I hunted at all.Thats the way it was in the mountains also.
Strange Year'''

I'm in Pitt Co.
I with you, I haven't seen many this year. Plenty of signs but not like the norm.
I have taken 4 does this year and one buck. But they are all from different counties.
My wife got a doe, with the van:)
My oldest son got 2 does both different counties.
Everybody that I know has not had the normal hunting season. Most did not get anything.
I also hunted more than ususal. It has been a long tough season for me.
Dang I'm tired!!

My hubby and I have a total of 7000 acres in Richmond , Montgomery, and Moore counties. 9 different hunt clubs lease all but 1000 acres. All of the clubs have seen way fewer deer this year than in the past years. The total harvested is HALF of what it HAS been. I hunted more this year then ever before and saw some deer, but not what I have seen in past years either.......but......the ice storm messed up the rut and add to that the full moon afterwards!. I did get two bucks early in the season, but seems like the deer became totally noctournal after that. Another factor was the bumper crop of acorns. The deer didn't have to search for food (all they had to do was roll over!! lol). But there sure was something eating 150 lbs. of corn a week at my 4 stands (that's 150 lbs. PER stand).

Sounds like every one from the middle of the state to west, found the same thing this year, little deer movement.Next year should really be good with the bad luck this year.

Deerhuntress56 I think you have it pegged when you said they just had to roll over to eat.In the wester part this is the first year in the last 5 that we have had any acron crop to amount to anything on our club, now they are laying on the ground every where.
Did any of you see a lot of scrapes during August?I went down then to put up a stand and fill my feeder and there were large scrapes every where, and lots of big rub trees. On our club we have a certain for each to hunt, since August and Dec,30 (the last day I hunted) not one of those scrapes were reopened,I have three other brothers that have an area and it was the same on theirs.I know there was bucks in the areas because we killed 4.Puzling.
I didn't get to hunt this year much during the bow season because of by-pass surgy but if nothing happens I aim to make up for it this year.
BowNC,yes they changed the name from Brown Creek hunt club to Lower Brown Creek this year. Did you hear where a young fellow on the youth hunt took a 22in spread this year??At first I heard it was 29 in spread so I asked the game warden and he said that was blowed a little out of proportion it was ONLY 22 inches.
Good luck to all this comming year.
