I just returned from louisiana. I go back home for the holidays ever year to see my family. So I took some leave and left macdill Air Force Base. I hunted really hard for two weeks, and on christmas day at about 2pm, I harvested a spike buck, about 3 years old, his 1 spike was about 14 inches long and the other was about 7 inches long, and it was growing all crooked, so I decide to take him. I put him down with my 30/30 at 40 yards. The entire two weeks, it rained on and off, finally with 3 daysleft, hunting from my box stand, I saw two does, cross my field, then after that another bigg deer, I could tell it was a buck even with low light, but I opted not too shoot becuase i have a 30/30 and never attempted to shoot 200 yards with it. So I acqured a rem 7mm from my brother and law, shot it a few times to get comfy. Went back to that same box stand on the last day, and the last evening hunt before my trip back to florida, and like clock work, here come the two does, but no buck. I watched the two does, and then out of no where here he came, 250 yards, I hit the grunt call and he stopped, I put the cross hairs on him and couldn't stop shaking, he started walking so i repeated the process this time I squeezed, and he dissapeared, I climbed down and sat on the groud for half an hour, replaying the shot and trying to slow my heart beat. I finally went to where the deer was standing, but no blood no hair, nothng, I shined the light on the edge of the field and there he lay. My biggest 8 point. I was so happy and my wife and family were so happy for me. I have some pictures and will post them sooon, hope this wasn't too long, but I had to share. I couldn't of ended the season any better. Overall I took 3 does, a spike and the bigg 8 point this year. Can't wait until next year.
