I killed a good one in Butler Co. on Dec. 31. He responded to a can call and buck grunt. He was very mad as he came in. He was slapping trees with his horns verses hooking. You will see why he was slapping instead of hooking. Take a look at the pics, he has a very odd rack. How many of you would mount this deer?

That is an awesome buck. Very unique rack. I'd mount him just due to his character. What part of Butler are you in? I'm down near McKenzie.

How long are his G2's. They look long!

Got two more decent bucks on my cam this past week. They have the creek head I'm hunting tore up. Scrapes and rubs every where. We saw some small bucks this weekend but it appears the bigger guys are still moving at night. Pretty typical. The next couple of weeks should be the best yet. Maybe we will get lucky and get some cold weather.

We saw some real good bucks fighting and chasing this past weekend! I'm gettin excited! They were makin some noise and mad! These were big bucks, (140's - 150's)and the smaller/younger ones were pretty calm. They never did present a shot, maybe next weekend!

How many of you would mount this deer?
I would. Why not? Mount 'em all!

The alabama rut amazes me in the fact that it comes so late. When I hunted North alabama, it was always mid December or January before we would see scrapes. 80 miles north in Tennessee, the rut is long over in December and usually starts about the 1st of 2nd week of November.

I use to hunt over in Houston Co in south AL. We had a lease over near Geneva on the west side of the county and another couple of leases over near the Farley Nuc plant on the East side of the county. I don't know if the radiation had something to do with it but the Farley Nuc leases always rutted in late November. Even to this day they do that. But our lease on the West side of the county didn't rut till late Jan.
