PLEASE UPDATE VA RUT
 

O.K. folks is the rut in middle/southern Va here , gone or is it on the way? With no real cold temps. and slow movements I hope I still have a chance. Any fellow Va. hunters with info please reply.

Here in Northern Va. the rut has just wound down, although I did grunt in a 4 point Saturday but decided not to take it because I took a 4 on Monday of last week. He came to a bleat (estrous) followed by aggressive grunts, he ran at me from about 75 to 100 yard away, he was ready, but all the chasing seems to have stopped here, all the scrapes have been closed for over a week, the scrapes had closed up and bucks were actively persueing does but that seems to have come to a crawl also. hit it again in about 22 days now. ~Ben

We're still getting a few smaller bucks coming in to grunts or can calls down here in south-central VA. Nothing I'd call a shooter, unless you're trying to outfit the freezer with a new supply of fresh meat<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>. I'm figuring that its starting to wind down a hair.

Seems like it's winding down in NOVA to me. Haven't seen much in the last few times I've hunted. This has been a pretty depressing rut.

Rut is pretty much gone for the year in Madison county. No activity on scrapes. No chasing. No nothing. Seeing lots of does with little bucks. I have seen some monsters taken though, but am not seeing them so I can take them. Oh well this weather has bogged them down and dogs have started to make the sleep all day long. Cold weather this weekend and the pressure will get them moving. Good luck you all. Happy Thanksgiving

The rut is gone here in southern Virginia! People can say what they want but to me the rut started early as crap this year and ended that way too! Deer aren't moving right at all this year either. Hardly seeing any deer in the evenings when I usually see about 9 or so every evening in past years. Is it the acorns or the wet weather? I have tried hunting the oaks and still not much luck. i have seen quite a few bucks this year in the mornings but can't get on the doe herd. Anyone else having this problem?

I saw a nice 8 on Sunday feeding with does. He looked ruffed up, but wasn't paying them any attention. I killed a small 6 Wednesday that was just feeding along. I believe it's over for now.
Huntingbgbucks, Where in Madison County are you. I hunt Rapidan @ Crieglersville and Wolfton. I thought dogs didn't open til The First.

I hunt the Rapidan also. And some private land. Dogs have been running out there. I dont know whos they are but they are running. I believe it is a hunt club. I know they were for sure, I listen to them on my radio when they drop them and when they shoot something they talk on radios. I think they dropped in about 10 last Saturday. Bear dogs I know cannot be ran until the 30th. This weekend dogs can be ran on Saturday for sure up there. Hey did you see the big ones taken at the store? I will be up there all weekend. Getting a motel up there and hunting for the mighty bear this weekend. Later Gents
