Florida Bucks

i know the further north you go, on average, the bigger bucks there are. however i believe Florida is the most overlooked state when it comes to hunting. there was a "boonie" taken here in my home county a couple years ago by a poacher. i don't think they ever put it in the books because it was poached but it was seized by the Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission shortly after it was shot. you can see this buck in the Ocala regional office of F.W.C. i believe it scored in the upper 160's maybe even higher. there are bucks of this caliber in this state, they are just few and far between. anyway, i just wanted to dedicate this thread to show everyone that Florida does have some nice bucks. if you have a nice buck that you harvested in Florida, post it up here...

this is one i harvested last year here in Central Florida. i've never had it officially scored but it has a 17 1/2 inch spread 8 point and weighed in at 150 pounds. i shot it at approximately 328 yards with a Weatherby .300 Mag. here are some field pic's of it, i'll post some pic's of the shoulder mount later.

Nice buck CamoCop! I have a question though. Why use that caliber on these Florida deer? Geez, my 25.06 kills em' just as dead and won't kick you into oblivion. (not critisizing just questioning!)

Are these deer being taken on public land like WMA, or private land, or a hunting club, all of them are really nice deer, but that one deer is beautiful, tall rack and mass is very nice, that deer had to score really nice. I'm in Tampa, still looking for a place to hunt..

RE: Florida Bucks

all these deer are taken on central Florida W.M.A.'s. we are poor "cracker" hunters.....lol. we can't afford to lease land. we spend virtually all year scouting these W.M.A.'s, hanging trail cams, recording deer movements and watching for deer sign.

You've proven your point about Florida being overlooked. Those are some nice lookin' deer! I like the dark antlers especially.

I carry an extra flashlight, good rubber boots , walk slow and keep your mind on Christ Jesus. I'm being serious.

Awesome bucks.I live here in North West Florida and have seen some monsters come off some of the WMA's around here. The biggest rack I've ever laid my hands on came off Eglin AFB's WMA. 170+" non Typ. HUGE to say this least.

This buck below was shot just up the road from my house on some leased land. 5 1/4" Bases! 22" spread. If you showed me this and told me to guess where he came from I'd have to say Midwest looking at the mass. But he came from right up the road here in FL. 14pt 207lbs on hoof. Here's the link to the full story. http://www.pensacolafishingforum.com/forum/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=29118&posts=17

Thanks for sharing...
I saw 2 gorgeous bucks during archery season that looked like norhtern bucks. They ran right across a trail in front of me. One was an 8 point and one a 10. They were gorgeous. With all the pressure though I plan to hunt th enext 5 day svery deep in the bayheads. 3/4 mile off the road. I'll be in the Green Swamp. I got the next 12 days off.
