Arkansas hunters
 

Has anybody ever hunted holland bottoms wma?Is it worth the trip out there?I was wanting to go out there and try to bowhunt and was thinking that it might be good since they don't have a modern gun season.

Do you mean Holla Bend??

Been there twice, killed a spike first time and an 8 pt second time, that was 7 or 8 years ago and I aint ever been back. Don't ask me why..

I have a buddy that lives in Clarksville. His house borders Holla Bend. He says there are some good bucks in there and bunches of 'em

A killer buck was killed by a guy who works at ANO with my dad in 99. Number two state non-typical record.

If you can get back in on Holla Bend where hunting pressure is light than you should be able to get a good deer.

You'll probably come through Russellville to get there. If you do, send me an email and we'll meet up.

Oh yeah, if you are talking about Holla Bend, it's not a WMA, it's a National Refuge. To get into it you have to have duck stamps purchased and it's bow only.

I also work at ANO, and Reed's (I think thats he's last name) buck was a monster buck. I hunt holla bend most of the time but, its not as good as it used to be, they used to sell about 500 permits a year this year they sold about 300, but that still to many hunters on 7000acres. I have not killed anything this yeat out there but it can be goed at times. The season only goes to Nov. 30 so it's about over.

Kmhughes may be talking about some other place becouse i've herd of holland bottoms before but not sure if it was in arknsas but I think it was./....

yeah it is holland bottoms wma in lonoke county but holla bend sounds nice too:)

it is also small around 6000 acres but I was thinking that there might be some monsters over there since they don't have a modern gun season

Yeah a little flat bottom boat would probably be pretty nice there to get into no man's land.I hunt muddy creek wma right now.I just started bowhunting this year and would really like to get one with a bow:D

Hey man do you duck hunt around Russellville, I going to take a rest on the deer hunting and try some ducks for a few days it may not be much better but It can't be as slow as the deer hunting......

I hear ya P-Tone. Deer hunting for me has been really slow. That buck only rule is kiling me. We got does outta wack at my house and I can't kill any right now. Saw 5 yesterday afternoon in the yard. I'm gonna go duck hunting too. Don't know of many good spots except on the river. Don't get to go much usually. This weekend I'll only be able to go Sunday cause I'll be outta town the rest of the week. If you wanna meet up and go sometime, just lemme know. I got stamps, shells, and shotgun ready to go!

WHy the buck only rule?
In garland county folks were killing does and they were not supposed to . AG&F messed up in the book. said you can kill one. girl said yesterday kill one they are not writing you a ticket if you do!
I guess those suburbia biologist for the AG&F think you guys up north don't have enough does and want to get your buck /doe ratio out of whack like south arkansas. gotta love the AG&F commission!

Man, I have no idea why the buck-only rule. As far as I know, we have way too many does up here. Especially right around my house where I usually hunt. I can't believe there's buck-only zones up around us. I guess they (AGFC) had a whole bunch of does checked last year and not many bucks. I figure numbers on the harvest will be way down this year. I'm gonna try to take a doe with my bow once gun closes. Gotta love the Game and Fish!
