Deer Outlook in SW VA

Hello all.

Any of you from the Wytheville, Rural Retreat, Speedwell area of VA?

We hunt the national forest, but have not heard about the deer population this year.

You guys seen many?

I plan on heading up there and do some recon, as well as bagging a few squirrels.

Thanks in advance.

John

I am from Roanoke, and have been out in the woods twice this year. It looks like another banner year for the acorns. They are everywhere! Good for the deer, not so good for us hunters. I have a farm near Richlands, and it is almost devoid of fawns this year. I think it is due to an increase in coyote populations, but there must be another reason too. Just not sure what else it may be. I saw five does and only one fawn a couple of weeks ago.

I am from Patrick Co. just 45 minutes south of Wytheville. We have lots of deer. The acorns are starting to fall and there is a bumper crop of them this year. Hunting should be great!

Hey Chuck, how far are you from Bristol? I have been to Bristol many times with Show Cars!

I have a place in Franklin Co. and one in Grayson. Seeing lots of deer... All ready got a 6pt with the car the other morning [:@].

Acorns are everywhere and very large this year here as well. That's a good sign that they'll be eating well if you can find find a good stand of trees to hunt over.
Loads of coyotes out both places. With the yotes I see a bigger decline in the rabbit population than with the fawns. I can always tell when packs are passing through all the rabbits in the fields are gone.
