I haven't seen a deer!
I live in harnet county NC and haven't seen 1 deer near my 10 acre property. most of the trees are cut down aroun the land. I do keep live stock like lambs, goats and horses in about 1 acre of the property. there is a creek or some water at the end of the property. I havent seen a deer nor squirel, racoon etc ever in the 5 year being here. However i have seen some about 2 miles away from my house. does anyone know what i could do to find out why im not seeing any wildlife. I would really love to find out and go hunting. What can I do to see if they are there. also before we bought the house i did notice a few deer tracks but after that i havent seen one. thanks <img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle> Edited by - LBR on 10/30/2002 11:32:10 |
RE: I haven't seen a deer!
Don't feel like the Lone Ranger, guy. I have been out 5 times since the rifle season started on Bragg, and have seen one deer and it wasn't worth the ammo. Similar complaints from a number of people. There's 189 acres behind my house that I hunted the last 2 years, that unfortunately, they cut all the timber of of this summer. The deer are still running the same trails dispite no cover, but it's all at night. Unfortunately, they'll be running dogs in another couple weeks. However, don't give up.

Runner have you stumbled up on any quail while you were at Bragg? I don't hunt deer but I hear Bragg has had some birds in the past? Thanks in advance

RE: I haven't seen a deer!
CDover,
The old Overhills areas have a great quail population. Quail Unlimited did a lot of work on food fields, shelter, etc, so the population around main post and the western part of post should be great next year. A lot of folks do really well until the last half of the season. The critters around Bragg are pretty smart and start heading to deep cover once the pressure gets too great.
