Info on Florida Hunting

Hi All,

I looks like I might have to move form the Northeast to Florida for my job. If so this will be in the Sanford / Lake Mary area.

I am wondering how the hunting is in this area? What type of hunting isaround here? Deer, Hog, Bird, ect...

Also are there any hunting clubs in this area??

IfI have to move I want to make sure I can continue my sport...

Thanks!

i live about 45 min's from sanford. you can find turkey, hogs, and deer around here. you just have to know where to look. there are quite a few clubs around but most of them are for dog hunting for deer. there are a number of good wma's around. the ones that i hunt are probably a little far from you though.

rebel you know this is how rumors get started. ;)i hunted down in richloam which is just north of green swamp and all that were killed were small deer for the most part. not to lie or anything, because that would be wrong, that deer was killed in richloam by a dog hunter. the new state record was actually shot just south of the georgia line. but to get really nice deer you have to go out of state. ;)

There are plenty of management areas for you to hunt one in particular is Tiger Bay about 1/2 north of you near Daytona. Great deer population some ncie sized deer for FL but wet, swampy and skeeter iinfested, but still good for public land. I am a transplant from NY so I am feeling your pain lol I lease land in Central GA and N Fl in the panhandle, going lease some land in GA and SC this coming year. YOu can hunt in Fl but you wont care for it, so drop me a line when you move here and maybe we can squeeze you in on our lease if we have an opening in GA, 4 hour ride from Sanford.

I too am from NY.... WTF Upstate NY....

It aint like NY.

BUT there are opportunities, the hog hunting down here is fantastic.. I do it more then deer hunting. I do miss ducks n geese n pheasant, but down here we have dove (just have to shoot more to fill your plate).

You have quite a few WMA within a short drive of Sanford/Lake Mary area, and the bowfishing on the st. johns is fun too... lived there for a couple of years.

Everybody's tryin to keep the Florida secret! I like that. I tell my relatives up north all the time that it never gets below 95 degrees and the humidiy is 100% all year long. That way maybe we can stop the ant farm subdivisions from taking just about every drop of Blackwater Jungle we have left to hunt in. I love when they tellme the bucks are the size of dogs! Then I usually send them a picture of this dog and tell them to please send me a pic of their dog from this year!

Guys,

While it is certainly a very exciting time for our friend who is moving from the Northeast dowwn to FL, lets keep a few things in perspective. Do we want to welcome him? Sure. No problem with that at all. But, we need to let him know and make it clear that we do not tolerate certain things down here in Florida.

Am I right guys? Who here wants another Yankee living in South Florida?

for all that don't know, i was joking about no deer in florida. as mentioned above, florida has some FINE hunt'n. it's just harder to hunt florida because of the terrain and elements...but you can't tell anyone that. like bigboar said, no matter what you tell people, they all believe our deer are sickly and little. you just have to know where to go to get the big boys....

this buck was killed by me (holding the rifle) last hunting season in lake county, florida. he was an 8 point weighing in at 150 pounds with a 17 1/2 inch spread.

Camo

I knew you were joking.;)I remembered your picture from last year. I'm chasing a fine Florida buck myself. If I wasn't an honest hunter I could of got him last year but wasn't daylight yet. Florida does take skill though when hunting in those public places. You need to hike a good piece away from the others and try to score in archery season.
By the way I'm a yankee too. Came here in 81 to go to Bible college. Actually Mason and Dixon line Maryland.
