Best public pheasant hunting in VA
Is there such a place? I'm gearing up for pheasant next month (not to mention deer and goose a bit later), but I was curious as to anyone here with me in VA also hunts pheasants and could point me to a place to go. I'm not asking for anyone's treasured spot, just some general info, which is, always, appreciated.

RE: Best public pheasant hunting in VA
My dad is a grouse hunter, and if there were anywhere in VA to hunt pheasants he would also be a pheasant hunter. I don't know of ANY places to hunt pheasant, except for preserves where you pay to hunt for pen raised birds.

try www.fffhuntingpreserve.com in keysville, he has wild and pen raised birds. I did some deer hunting there and it is really nice

Thanks fellas - I e-mailed the guy and asked him if he was booking anything in the near future. It's 70.00 for a half day of pheasant, and that includes 4 birds. Any extra is 17.50, I read.

I had planned to go to the CW Phelps WMA on Monday for opening day of fall turkey, and while there, go also for dove and woodcock. For deer, I had in mind the Clinch Mountain WMA several hours south of here. If I'm not mistaken, our season here west of I-95 lasts from 19 NOV until 3 DEC.

Whitewolf, if you drive to Clinch Mtn. WMA from Alexandria you will be passing by some far better places closer to home! I used to hunt there before moving to Roanoke. It is a big rugged area with some good deer, but there are some far better places on some of the national forests and WMA's in Bath, Rockbridge, and Craig co.'s to name a few.
It would take you at least 5.5 hours to drive there versus half that for the aforementioned areas. If Clinch Mtn. appeals to you take a look at Goshen-Little Mtn. area. Good Luck wherever you choose! |

5.5 hrs is sick time, and I won't drive that! I was way off in my calculation, thanks for pointing that out.
I'll check out the Goshen-Little Mtn and the others you mentione that are closer to home. A couple of hours or so I can deal with. |
