quick question
 

I have had my trail cam set up for about 2 months now and i've seen a lot more bucks than does on my pictures. Problem is, there are many many young bucks this year for one reason or another.... is this good or bad, i kno they will create competition about rut time but with the low number of does i've seen do you think there will still be alot of new deer next year, and if the younger deer slip in before the more dominant deer do you think the "gene pool" will hurt resulting in smaller bucks later on... thank you for any answers

This is a pretty good problem to have! I dont think the younger bucks should present much problem when it comes to breeding.I have the same situation with my Cam i have had it out since augest and have yet to get a pic of a doe all bucks.

And young bucks, given time, will grow to be big bucks. The young bucks have the same genetics as the older bucks, just time is the main difference.

some of those big older mature buck are kinda camera shy, really i've got pic. of some really big buck, and never again, from that area,and it wasn't because they were killed,it was a month after season before i got another one, if theres little one theirs big one too

that woudl be a good problem. a bunch of young bucks will hopefully get those big-boys up & moving.. Also, if you have a pretty good buck-2-doe ratio, rattlling & grunting will be a lot more successfull.!!

I have found a pretty good way to channel the bigger bucks that you catch on camera. After you get a few pictures or sometimes even one picture of them with a field camera. MOVE IT!

Its always good to have ore than 2 or 3 spots set up , especially if you are using a 35mm Camera. The 2-4 MP cameras are the best because the flash is generally denser and is ussaly alot smaller. Digital cameras don't need all the same light and are alot more silent.

When targeting mature deer on trailcams, don't expect to get many pics. If you have a camera that gets a lot of pics of does/young bucks, you can usually find a "less used" trail real close to the more used trail.

In other words, mature bucks often use smaller, less noticable trials, that usually run parallel to the more heavily used "doe trails"..

This may not be true in your neck of the woods, but it hold true here in North MS.. :)

I had 3 rolls of film taken fom July to aug.6 different buck,2 does,and 3 yearlings.Now I am getting no pics...That's a bigger prob than all bucks.I wouldn't worry,a big one is very likely to come by.Does like to stay in certain places,and when pressure,breeeding,acorns drop....wow I could go on and on.There are so many things that influence them.
