you guys for some reason think that you have to own one of this pea- shooter to know what they are good for. the numbers and the charts tell the story. i never said match muzzel to muzzel. i'm just trying to tell you what is left in your little pill at differant ranges. you can believe me or not but that little pill is about the same as a good pellet gun at 250 yards. read man you gotta read. even your own charts tell you what they can do.

Let me tell you, that pill is a mean little round thats gonna shoot a little better than a good pellet gun I think. I do read, and even better yet I go out and see things for myself firsthand before I say anything, which is more than I can say for you missed another.

coyotegod you are right they do shoot better than a good pellet gun at close range but at 250 yards they are just about the same. i almost bought a .17 here about two weeks ago. but after reading the charts i decided on a 22 mag. neither are good for 250 yards but the .22 mag has a better energy levels.

To tell you the truth, for the hunting I do I should have never got my 17. In the same month I went on a spending spree and got a 17 a 204 and a 223. I should have just got my 223. But the 17 has proven to be a good round.

coyotegod the .17 is a great round if people know it's limits. the .223 are just plane great. i have 3 of them and they are a blast to shoot. if you get a chance try the winchester 45 grain varmint loads. good shooters. i think you will be surprized how they shoot.

A 17 gr bullet of which 7 grains is the plastic tip which basicly all it does is make the bullet expand as soon as it touches anything.
With my 17 HMR I shot 3 yotes on monday with the 20 grain game points, all 3 of them were 80 to 100 yard shots two were complete pass through shots the other the bullet hit a rib and fragmented. The 2 pass through shots the yotes were expired within seconds they both ran only a few yards, the other was dead before its belly hit the ground. The 20 grain game point is recommended for coyotes. My buddy uses the TNT's, i wouldnt hesitate to use the 17 grain TNT on coyotes either. You should see what the TNT does to a crow at 75 yards. All I can say POOF!!!

The 17 HMR costs about 10 bucks for 50, 223's are a buck more per 50
Ridge runner what 223 ammo are you talking about??, for any decent 223 ammo that will produce decent groups, you're lookin at 13 or 14 dollars for 20 rounds. Yeah you could get some brown bear soft points that run 3 dollars for 20 rounds but the stuff is laquered steel cased cr@p Id never run that dirty junk through any of my fine firearms.......

On another note, I read every one of these posts. Seems almost everyone here are arm chair ballistics experts................... If you have no experience with a 17 HMR dont even bother posting, because whatever you type and its different from my own personal experience, I know you are full of Cr@p or are just flat out ignorant.
