i will and have hunt EVERYTHING with my 22magnum, i love it. If you put me on a island and said Lynn you get one gun, that would be the one i pick hands down. Light wieght, got 100yardshot, and myne will put 10rnds inside a inch at 100yards. Put it in the head and its goin down. Although i am gonna get me .17 when i get some blow off money =)

bigmatt do you know that at 100 yds the .17 hmr has less energy than a .22 long. at 200 yds it has less than half the energy on a .22 long. at 250 yds you are entering into a good bb gun energy level. you may want to change the battery in your rangefinder.

I have been wanting either a 17 HMR or a 22 Magnum.

For coyotes and or Crows.

When I ever get the money to get one.

What are the pros and cons for each gun ?

What is your opinion on each.

The 17 is flater shooting but the bullet is not
as heavy as the 22 mag.

The 22 mag bullet is heaver but not as flat shooting as the 17.

Witch one does every one like ?

Thank You Very Much
You should look at the .22 hornet. it's a flatter shooter than both these calibers with a lot more umph. shells are a bit more, so its not suited for plinking, but actuall hunting it's awsome.
I also agree that the 17 is not suited for yotes. I seen some tests on the 17 verses the .22LR
the .22lr actually had more penetration than the 17. that little bullet is just way to small if you ask me. coming in at 17 gr its about the size of a .177 pellet. The .22mag is a better choice for hunting, but the hornet is even better.

Dairy King i believe they are going for around $200.00 for a savage stainless on black composite. i just bought a 22 mag stainless on black and the .17 were the same price. i don't know why i bought it because i have three .223s and a hand full of .22s. i guess i just needed something new. someday i may talk myself into a .17 but for now my .22 cover anything in that area.

If I was you I would forget the .17hmr or the .22mag go
with a 22 hornet or a .223. If you won't get a .223 or
a 22 hornet. I would go with the .17hmr. You can get
a marlin bolt action at walmart for I think $ 187.97.

At 100yds the 17 has 135 lbs pressure and the 22 has 92 lbs pressure. At 200 th 17 has 72 lbs and the 22 has 70 lbs. so its almost the same.

please missed another stop talking about **** you dont know about and stop making stuff up, have you look at the ballisitcs. cci's site likes a 135lbs of energy for a 17hmr 17gr and 148ftlbs for the 20gr at 100 yards and 93 ftlbs for a 40gr longrifle, the velocitor has 110ftlbs at 100 yards with 40gr still less then 17hmr. heres some ballisitcs from Varmint als at 200 yards there almost even but the 17hmr is still on top. sure the.22 have more energy at 250 yards, but look at the drop in that chart the only way you could anything at 250 yards with that kinda drop is if you had ballistic charts and a spoter. so do us all a favor and stop running your mouth.
