RE: whats the best trap for?
I would suggest gettin some snares, need different sizes for each of those criters i would imagine. Check out ram power snares, i picked one up a few months ago and love it.

RE: whats the best trap for?
A #2 coilspring should serve you well. I used them and caught fox, coon, skunk, possum', bobcat, stray dogs, and yes even a rabbit! I had a few yotes pull out of the #2's. If you use them for yotes you may have to modify them or use a #3. Good Luck!

RE: whats the best trap for?
snares or steel traps are the most reliable, coyotes are sometimes hard to catch, you have to fool him, leave no human scent behind

RE: whats the best trap for?
#2 double coil springs will work good but make sure the trap is equipt will a swivle and a spring on the chain to reduce the amount of strain put on the animal when they try to pull out. The spring on the chain adds a little give when they lunge and it's not such a abrupt stop when they hit the end. Don't give them alot of chain to work with either.
Coyotes are by far the toughest animals in this region to trap They are strong and if you don't use quality equipment they will get away. |
RE: whats the best trap for?
for coyote you would want to use a #4 coilspring. for rabbit just hunt em. and I'm not much of a bob cat trapper so i can't help you much there.

RE: whats the best trap for?
A #4 cs for a coyote is a bit much. Stick with a #2 or #3.

RE: whats the best trap for?
for the smaller game ... up to the raccoons id go with the 1 1/2 cs traps ..... nuthin smaller than a 1 3/4 coilspring for yotes (offset jaws are best) .... with any trap but more so on dryland make sure ya use a few swivels .... the swivel at the stake and the one at the trap tend to get fouled by veg in the catch circle .... mid-chains will cut down on damage to the animal .... ya can go up to #3's for the yotes .... but if ya not gonna be catchin ALOT of yotes its overkill ....altho ya get a larger jaw spread and sturdier trap .... it is hard on the small animals ya tend to catch in em ...as in reds and greys .... ya can cut down on these catches by uping ya pan tension ... but id think that would be silly since the reds in that area are prolly bringin more than ya yotes .... i always had great luck with the 1 3/4 cs offsets for yotes and fox .... just make sure ya bend the end of the trap jaws up in the frame or better yet bead them with a welder .... the yotes WILL pop out the jaws .... ya can also cut down on this by adding a base plate .... also welding 9 ga wire on ya trigger will save ya time in resets ... catch many yotes and ya will see what i mean ... lol .....as far as snares ..... 3 /32 is the way to go and dont skimp on the locks ..... good luck .... holla at me if ya wanna chat

RE: whats the best trap for?
the above is good advice. For coon I prefer a #11, yotes a #3 coil, fox and mink a 1 1/2 coil and again 3/32 snares for all the above and beaver.
