I am a .243 man myself and have used it for everything from chucks to deer. I find that as long as you choose the right bullet for the job it works great. I have a Savage model 11 chambered for .243 win mag and sight in in dead on at 250 yards.

I am an inch high at 100 and and inch low at 300. I use my righ mostly for coyotes in WNY an hour south of Buffalo, NY. With 95 grain teflon tipped remmington ammo. Knocks em down everytime and not much pelt damage. I have noticed that if you use a lower grain bullet the pelt damage a little more extensive. I don't know if that is because the bullet fragments more on impact or what. You would think that it would be the opposite. Higher grain more pelt damage.

What I am thinking is a lighter skined animal such as a coyote allows the heavier grain bullet to hold together and pass through the animal with out fragmenting much and causing pelt damage.

What are your thoughts on this?

243 win mag? Did you mean 243 WSSM? Thats my guess anyway.

And I agree with your statements about the heavier balls holding together better.

BTW, what 243 do you have....reg 243 win or the 243 WSSM?

I like what i see wit hthe WSSM though - Have you shot any - I would be interested to see how the reg .243 and .243 WSSM match up.

I have been building uppers for the AR-15 in the WSSM line. The .243 has been selling quite well to the predator hunters. It's hard to compare aples to aples with hand-loads but I have been getting consistently higher velocities out of my .243 WSSM than I have gotten with my .243 Winchester out of an AR-10. The other "up-side" is that they are about 3 pounds lighter and $400.00 cheaper!

I like the WSSMs, I think they're here to stay.

8mm/06....Here on my property i have Head shot and killed yotes with 22wrm @ about 25yds...I used to
kill them with a military surplus 6.5mm CARCANO for longer ranges.

No... .308cal is 7.7mm and 6.5mm is .260cal

Ks_Sniper, to convert caliber to MM>devide cal by .040.......to convert MM to cal multiply by .040..
