The same furles apply in Michigan. It's like they don't want us killing them at all? The reasoning they gave me when I asked the DNR was because they didn't want poachers shooting deer. Well, if your a poacher I don't think that law is going to make that much of a different? Just my two cents?

i am not psoitive but i think they ment no greater the 6 shot so you couldn't use 7's but 4's would be fine. if that is the case get buckshot or the lowest shot you can get. i can't tell you how far to keep your shots because you will have to pattern your shotgun to see.

mine with a mod. choke and 000 shot is good out to about 40-45 yards where with a full choke it is only good to about 35 yards

so do a double check on that but i am about 90% sure they ment you can use #5 and lower but not #7's

That would make a whole lot of sense.

No, they meant no greater than 6 shot. I can use 6+. I wanted to know what my effective range was. I know I have to pattern it. Here is what I meant by that: If I can put most of the shot in the circle at 30 yards, is that enough to bring it down?

When hunting coyotes at night, weapons are restricted to standard .22 claiber rimfire (magnums excluded) or shotguns with shot no larger than No. 6.

I would stick with 40 yards and under for the shotgun. I found that my Win 1300D patterns pretty decent at that range without using a choke at all (haven't had one installed yet), and though yours will pattern differently, I'm sure you'd get better choking than I do.

You might also want to carry a .22LR pistol or rifle with you as well. That way if you have to finish it off, you won't waste the ammo nor absolutely ruin the animal... unless you just absolutely HATE the buggers and would rather use your shotgun at point blank range.

I went to Wal-Mart and bought a box of the #6 High Brass loads. They have 1 1/4 ounce of lead. This should do.
