The one I own fits both .
A Savage 12 FV in 223 .It is cheap to shoot and will do the job at 300+ yds .
If you like the 22-250 they have it too.

I like my Browning A-Bolt composite stalker in .223. Its light, easy to carry, and accuracy is only limited by the shooter. With the right ammo and a good scope, the bullets will usually all touch at 100. I've got a 3-9x40 Nikon Buckmaster on top of it. I tried using a higher powered scope, but put the Nikon back on since it is much easier to see with for night time coyote hunts.

i got a NEF .243 and it was about 230-250 dollars, then I added a 3-9x40 scope. In the end I think it ended up costing somewhere between 270 and 300 dollars but it was cheep compared to some other guns I looked at. And I orderdered the gun over the internet but it wasn't worth it.

RE: guns

would .243 winchester be too large a caliber for predators? It is my understanding that this would give me more range and also would be large enough for whitetails is that correct? The only downfall would be more expensive bullets?

RE: guns

QTompkins2005, both a 243 and the 30 06 would be great for both deer and coyotes. i would use fmj ammo in the 30 06. as for the nef handi rifle you can pick up a new one for around $200. that will be my next rifle in 223.;)
