How do you hunt fox?
 

I interested in hunting foxes. There are several in my area that I've seen while deer hunting.

What methods work for hunting them.

Also, will a 308 loaded with FMJ be too much. I want to get a full body mount.

Although I'm not a fox hunter, I do know that a .308 is too much rifle for a small predator like a red fox.

We use dogs or call em up. Shoot em with a .22mag or .223 to keep the hides in good shape.
Usually 12ga with the dogs.

My grampa used to hunt fox alot and he used dogs or tracked them in fresh snow. he used a .22 LR. he was a pretty good shot though. .223 or .22 Mag sounds good for fox. i've thought about hunting fox, but the coyotes are hard enough on them around here so i just let them be.

Hunting fox with a .308 might be a little overkill. I agree with everyone else .223 or .22mag would be a great gun to use for fox.

How do you define hunt fox ,with dog or gun as already stated 308 is to big for fox .I control fox's with a remi 700 in 223 even using v-max heads pelt damage isn't to bad ,most of my fox control is done at night , my shooting partner uses the lamp and call ,i shoot , this is a succesful way to control fox's for us this season we accounted for 81 our best night being 8 ,sometimes i shoot alone using a scope mounted lamp best night was 3 but it was hard work lamps used are nightforce these are verry good .Good luck in what meathod you use

Predator calling with a .22-mag is how I prefer.

If you are not going to get in to calling fox all the time your 308 with FMJ will work fin for a fox to mount.Right at 1st light or right befor dark are the best time for light hunting them.I am like ENGSHOOTER I hunt at night ,but if you only want 1 fox dont go buy all the calling items.Bird disress or rabbit is very good calls.
