RE: ..25-06...For coyote are they good???
My opinion is, it's more gun than needed, and yes the pelt damage would be greater than necassary, although I believe you could use a heavier bullet, one suited for big game, and the pelt damage would be minumul, do to the heavier bullet not expanding so violantly due to the smaller bones of the coyote. I know one guy that shoots his .300 win. mag. for everything, including coyotes, and damage is not near what you would believe, again due to the heavy bullets aren't designed for the smaller critters. Effective, OH YES, but I don't like to pay for anymore bullet than is needed, to dispatch a coyote. I say, use what ya got, most calibers will do the job, and if ya can shoot it good, well that's that much better.

The 25-06 is definitly not good for the coyote . Makes a very big hole .

However IF you were thinking of a duel purpose rifle the 22.250 is not legal in most states for Deer but the 25-06 is.
If only for 'yotes, I would agree there are better choices. Greg "Getting close to the game is the joy of Bowhunting for me, the harvest is a bonus." ![]() Live 15 ft Python after eating a small Antelope! |

i think howler coverd this topic very well.as far as a duel purpose rifle,if i could only have one rifle and wanted to hunt both coyote and deer,i would go for a 243 over a 25-06.don't get me wrong the 25-06 is a fantastic round, its just a little much for coyote.
