Fox coming in for chickens.

Howdy, I awoke this morning to a fox trying to get at my chickens. Long story short I had a loaded sig 45 but missed! I am wondering what sort of proactive hunting tactics could be used to get this varmint. I dont really feel like sitting up every night waiting untill he comes back; you know he will be back though. This happened right about sunrise here 7am or so, do you think he'll try again today? Besides the .45 (which I dont think I'll be using again for this hunt) I own a .44 mag 7.5" with scope, 12 gauge shot gun, and .270 Tikka. Out of these which weapon would best to kill? He has to come up to within 20 feet of the house to get the chickens so the shot should'nt have to be to long. Also we are getting coyotes awefully thick in here can I use a call to bring in both varmits? Thankyou.

Just call animal control in your area.

They might let you use one of there dog traps.

They will do it for stray dogs so it might be a way to get rid of it.

They will even remove it for you.

Any ways Good Luck

As the chickens are fairly easy prey for him i would think he will come back. My advice is get the 12 bore and .270 out and sit in an upstairs window overlooking the chicken pen (if there is one) and try sqeaking him in at around first light. If he gets close before you see him you can use the 12 bore and then if he decides to stop out of range you can drop him with the .270. I dont know much about coyotes as we dont have them here in Britain but the above should work for foxes. Good luck!
