I dont care where you are hunting, the 22mag is ideal for yotes. I have a lot of friends that use them for deer and do great. Howler, you must be one of those that want the bullet to do the work, with a well placed shot anything should fall. If you are not placing your shot well, dont pull the trigger. I dont agree with people that do unethical things, but, the 22mag for yotes is ethical.

hm305- in another post you talked about shooting squirrels at 100 yards easy. now you are saying your friends shoot deer illegally.

a 22 mag will work most of the time under 50 yards however it will never be ideal

Well, I am awe struck at this comment. Thankfully the 22 mag. is NOT legal for big game hunting in most states, but apparently it is where you live. And again, to say that the 22 mag. is the "ideal" coyote gun is laughable. Maybe you hunt where you can only expect shots under 100 yards, BUT many, MANY coyote hunters hunt coyotes where shots may range out to 300 yards. and further, Now surely you wouldn't recommend the 22 mag for 300 yard shooting, would You? I guess you might sinse you seem to think that the 22 mag. is a suitable deer rifle>:D I am not saying, and have not said, that the 22 mag won't work on coyotes, but there is a limit to it's ability, and unless the bullet is perfectly placed, you can expect the coyote to go along ways before piling up!

howler- accourding to his other post he kills sqirrels easy at 100 yards with a 22 LR so he can prob. kill them out to 150 right? so now you put a more powerful gun "22 mag." in his hands and he should be good for another hundred yards meaning he can kill out to 250 yards. and if he can kill a squirrel at that far he should be able to hit a coyote in the head right? lol

but for the rest of us. the 22 mag only works out to 50-75 yards

I'll have to admit that he's got me thinking and wondering if there is and where it is that the 22 mag. is legal for deer hunting. By the way, I have killed coyotes with the 22 lr, but that doesn't mean that is "ideal" for coyote hunting!!
