17 hmr and coyotes

Im thinking about purchasing a new 17 caliber because ive been looking them up and so far it looks like there perfect for coyotes except for the penetration and i was wondeering what u all think i should do buy one or not and if i do decide to buy one what would be the area i should shoot the coyotes with this low cailbered gun?

IMO the 17 HMR is not enough for coyotes. There is just not enough bullet weight/penertration for consistant clean kills . The 22 mag is far better . I use a Marlin 882 SSV and never had 1 go far .

.17 rem ain't a bad yote gun but the 17hmr is a bit underpowered. I would suggest something more like a 22-250, 222 etc.

You might look into the new .204 cal. It is getting very good reviews as far as coyote medicine. I agree with the others, the 17HMR just isn't up to the task for coyotes.

a skull or neck shot should bring them down easy. any other shots go with the XPT it is supose to give more penitration and mushroom good.
