ANYBODY USE A .22 for COYOTE HUNTING

We have alot of yotes around here in MN now and my buddy and I are going to hunt them after bow season and was wondering how good a .22 will work. Thanks.

I wouldnt use a .22lr

You could try your bow, and if you have a shotgun....that would work too

I was thinking of using a .22lr. I even found that CCI velocitors are supposed to handle up to a coyote. But then I figured
I'd stick to 110gr ballistic tips for my .308. Those things kick butt on groundhogs.

Not very good at all. Yes a skull shot would kill if placed well but you aren't going to get that close to the yote to make that shot count. Your off by a bit and catch the jaw, snout then what? I would suggest get a better cal like a 22-250, 222, .17 rem etc and go for the body. Usaully yotes are longer shots these calibers will reach out there and touch em good.

Actually, I use .22's for Yotlers. If you use the right bullet, that is not the cheapy Wal-mart specials, you'll do O.K. I like the Winchester Power-Point and Remington Cyclone for a standard hollow point. The CCI Stinger's good too, if your gun will shoot em'. The new Quik Shok by CCI is a good choice too. With these, pt the bullet broadside in the heart/lungs, and if he's under 100 yards, preferably 75 or closer, take him. If your using solids, put the bullet in his skull. But, those shots have to be close. In my experiance, if your calling them in, and if your camoflauged and don't move, they will run right past you. I agree a .223 or whatnot is a better choice, but I know not everybody has one. Good hunting.

I usually use mt .270 win at 75 yards or more, if I can get em in under 75 yards I use my 22 with cci stingers. I take a knife and carve an X in the tip of the cci stingers and it works great.

I love useing my 243. that thing does the job. if you might be shhoting farther than 300 yrds (which you shouldn't be) I would use a 270.

I have not shot a coyote yet. I will use my bow or my .22. The only reason I am going to use my .22 is because I hunt in thick woods. The max shot distance is probably about 15 yards in one area. Every other spot shots are under 10 yards. I will only take head shots. I can put 3 bullets in one hole at 30 yards with that gun.
