I use high-brass #4--digging out lots of small pellets gets old pretty quickly.

But to even lessen the pellet count even more I usually aim high so the squirrel only catches the bottom of the shot string
thats a good idea i most likely wouldn't think of something that easy lol.

i all ready posted and i began to think if i had to hunt squirrel with a shotgun and i wanted to eat them i would still use the 28 guage but with high brass 6 shot or a 12 guage with high brass 4 or 6 shot.

I was experimenting and come up with a new load im gonna try for extended range squirrel hunting LOL, pushes 7/8 of #4's at 1535 fps im gonna use a full choke gonna try for a 60 yard kill. I know it is kind of a pointless load. but probably ill just wind up using them for high flying crows.

I was just seein what everyone else used I use a 20 ga full choke and #4 shot. And when the leaves are off I use the .22 and sometimes the .177 cal.

It really depends on what bore I'm using, in .410 I usually use 6shot (or #5 when you can find it), in 12ga I use 6-8shot, depends on how far I'm planning on shooting, most the time I use 8 or AA's, since usually we're shooting up a hedge tree, no more than 20' shots, but with lots of crap in the way.
