RE: I GIVE UP TOTALY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't give up TOTALLY.. I have a .223 and I like it.. it really does a number on groundhogs. And since I don't eat them it's just fun to watch them blow up. I also have a .308, (several .22 lrs ranging from Marlins to $3000 competition Anschutz), .17 HMR and a 22-250. I just feel that it has it's place and if you want to eat the animal, are hunting in a special reg zone, crowded area or shooting up trees.. something with a little less get up and go is in order.

RE: I GIVE UP TOTALY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe if you sounded like you knew what you were talking about folks would listen. Not trying to put you down but your posts seem like you are pretty inexperienced when it comes to ballistics and you feel just because you shoot the 223 that it is the best. For instance, you recommended a 223 for squirrel and rabbit hunting. Do you have any idea how much damage a 223 would do? There would be no meat left. Again, not trying to put you down, but live and learn.

RE: I GIVE UP TOTALY!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree , the 233 is a great all around varmit round .To fast for tree rats unless you down load, but that is different.

RE: I GIVE UP TOTALY!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't give a second thought to what folks shoot unless I'm asked for an opinion.
Don't worry what others shoot or think. Use what works best for you. |
RE: I GIVE UP TOTALY!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with all of you guys in a way, the 223 is an awesome caliber especially if you handload, but for wasting of varnints only and plinking, no centerfire in my opinion is good for small game if you wanna eat the critter. It is fun to pop nusiance squirrels and rabbits occasionally with and on up to coyotes, but it really does a good job of blowing things up. Dont be hard on mcgavin i see his point and everyone elses too.

RE: I GIVE UP TOTALY!!!!!!!!!!!!
I own a 22-250 & 223. The gun that I shoot the most is the 223. Both rifles are very accurate. The 22-250 might even be more accurate that the 223??? The reason I grab the 223 more often? The barrel stays cool longer & I burn less power. Less powder means I save money.
