22 WMR for Coyotes?
Would the 22 wmr cartrige be ok for an occasional coyote? Im buying it mostly for plinking and the foxes we have in georgia but i will occasionaly call in a coyote. If I kept the distance short enough would this be adiquite? sp? The one i am looking at getting is the savage 93fvss.
Thanks, Nick Radovich |

22 mag is great for yotes to 100 yards or so

It should be fine for coyotes out to that range. However, make sure that you use a lead round nose bullet, rather than the ballistiic tipped bullets they put in the WMR now. They will be needed to get penetration.

There are better choices, like a 223 remington. It can be done though, just keep your shots short and hit the vitals. Unless your dead set on a 22 mag I would consider the 223 remington.

Stick with 40 grain 22 mag loads they have a little more thump on a yote at 100+ yards those 30 grain loads sure they have more velocity but you cannot replace mass with velocity even though the charts show more energy with the light faster bullets.

I have the Savage and it would probably work on a yote within 150 yds. but I wouldn't reccomend it. It is great for gophers though and twice the hitting power of a .22. I would suggest CCI "TNT" loads if you will be using it for any critters. They really pack a punch! JDinAB
