What is it?

Somehow I have come in possession of the pelt in the attached photo. The only problem is that noone knows what it is. The tail is actually rounded at the tip, not pointed because it rolls up when spread out. The length is about 6 feet. Does anyone have an idea what critter this is from?

RE: What is it?

could it be a cougar? i'm judging by the length and the shape of the ears.

Cougar. Depending on the thickness of the fur could be a sea otter.

A Friend of mine has something like that...

With the cut the way it is, and the color of the fur it matches a friend of mine. His is a pelt from a kangaroo.

Very well could be the winner here...

The picture is a little blurry, but unless those are ears on the end, I'd say its an otter.

Thanks guys. I'm betting on the cougar but there aren't that many in our area. Unless someone raided a zoo, the kangaroo is a long shot. Those aren't ears at the top, just extensions of the fur and the tail is huge compared to the body. I'll try to get a better picture. It came in a load of items from an Indian Reserve with 2 racoon skins. I was just hoping it wasn't someones pet dog.

RE: What is it?

Is it total length of six feet? Including the tail? If the tail is included in that total, it is not a cougar. A cougar's body alone can be close to six feet easy, plus 3 feet or more in the tail. A cougar that small would still have spots on it probably. Also, cougar's ears are rounded, not pointed.

CB; it's 6 feet long including the tail. Otter & Kangaroo near Niagara Falls? It will make an interesting wall hanging in my hunting trailer.
