RE: Frog gigging?

i used to like frog hunting, till i found out that the REALLY big bullfrogs could be over 20 years old. i felt bad and stopped killing them.

same with turtles. knowing that a big snapper could be 50-80-120 years old made me feel weird for killing it. not to mention the poor guys don't even get to breed till theyre over 15 years old (thats along time in turtle years );)

it weird, i'll hunt deer, ducks, turkeys , treerats, everything else, but something that can live a long time like a turtle or frog, i'm a softie.

go figure.

BUT, when we used to do it, a CB22 to the head was big medicine. and frog legs in garlic and butter? oh man

I just use a dip net with a 5 foot handle. Sometimes I break out the pellet gun though, lol. You'd be ammazed at what an RWS super hollow point can do to a frog's skull.

RE: Frog gigging?

It's been a long time but yeah we would first stick a knife
in their head (I hate to dress-out a living animal, it's a personal
thing) then cut off the legs. I don't know if it is a nerve or
tendon but there will be a yellowish string that needs to be
pulled out of each leg. Old timers told me if this was'nt done
the legs would jump (convulse) right out of the hot grease when
frying. Then of course pull the skin off and cut off the feet.
If I'm mis-leading in some point someone please correct me.
Like I said, it's been a long time.

edited for spelling, hope I got 'em all.
