Summertime Contest

Everybody's talkin about the squirrel contest.... but that wont take place until fall, so why not have a contest in the summer to get us geared up and keep our skills honed? I say we do a groundhog contest, biggest # overall, in teams just like the squirrel contest (you can eat em if you want, but most people just want em outta their gardens) Sign up if you want, and give ideas on how many people per team and any other stuff that might come up during the contest. We need to decide on a starting date and stopping date.

Any weapon is legal, as long as YOU think you can make a clean, ethical kill with it.

Team #1
Timbawolf98
Deerslayer223

Who else is in? If we can decide on a number of persons per team, bring your own team if you want, so you're in with your buds. Contact me or Deerslayer223 with any questions.

What about a summer time small game contest. Here in maine the only thing to hunt is red squirrles, yotes, wood chucks, and porkeypines.

deerslayer223 04-21-2004 07:16 PM

RE: Summertime Contest

A woodchuck around here is considered a groundhog.

Around here all u can hunt during the summer is varmit's it is that way in many places. If we make it a summertime small game contest it wont be fair to some people. Sorry 94. Are you still in anyways?

One more thought...When does the summer time contest end? I am thinking, oh, August 31st or so.

Also to save on the space and time downloading pics, how about every body save and freeze the tails of the quarry and take one pic at the end of the contest to show how many were taken? Just a thought, any comments to that?

And the final rules?

Starts May 1st ends ?

Any legal weapon

Post pics for accuracy of counting

RE: Summertime Contest

Has anyone got one yet? I have seen two so far. One was in my yard which is in town hense no shooting zone. I was going to get it that night but on my way home from a friends house it was allready road kill. The other one was today down at the place that I ride horses and Im going to ask the owner of the property if they will let me hunt out back.

Got 7 so far...Only two have been since the contest started and they weren't that big...I'll have to remember the camera and scale from now on. Is it number of groundhogs or do we have to weigh them too? I'm confused.

I haven't been out hardly at all this summer. I don't have a truck and have a hard time finding someone to go with me. I will be going out this Saturday and Sunday on a water guzzler project in the mountains, so hopefully I can find the time and a few varmints to hit.

charlie brown 06-26-2004 11:42 PM

RE: Summertime Contest

Not sure if these will count, but this morning, I got 3 jackrabbits while working on a water guzzler for elk, deer, antelope, as well as upland birds and whatever else is in the area. I went out to the site late last night and got up this morning before everybody else came up and blasted a few. I am sure I can add to the score as soon as I get the problem with my .223 figured out. I should have pics of the jacks in the next couple of days.

Here is a pic of my primary go-to gun for hunting jack rabbits. H&R .223, Leupold 2-7 x 33, Harris Bipod, 45 gr Speer handloads.

And here is a pic of some jack rabbits I got on 6/26/04 in Goshute Valley, Nevada.
