Head shots on pelts??

I avoid head shots on yotes and other furbearers because it does so much damage to the pelt in my mind. I think that a good pelt needs to have a well skinned head, without a bunch of holes in it. Where do you all prefer to aim???

GOTTA LOVE THAT MARLIN MAGIC!!!!

My furbuyer says that anything from the ears forward is not used and does not dock me for holes in the head. If they come in close enough, I will take a head shot, but most of the time it is in the chest/shoulder. I shoot a .223 and very seldom get an exit or any pelt damage.

RE: Head shots on pelts??

If you are selling your hides to a furbuyer, I would suggest talking to them to see where their market is in demand. Some furbuyers want virtually unmarked hides for taxidermy use. Others, like dog72 said will be looking at the hides for garment use, and don't care about the heads.

If it for your own use, I would suggest the body shot. Too much risk with the skull shattering, expanding the bullet and having massive pelt damage to what could of been a great looking wall hanger.
