RE: How many coyote you killed ?

CoyotePup,
My sincere apologies if you took my post on the other thread in the wrong context. I was simply making an observation from the picture is all. Something that I at times take for granted , is that I have been on the board for so long that many know I have had either wolf/hybrids,and/ or wolves as "family members" for going on almost 30 yrs now. I was just making an observation is all. Again my apologies.

Now back to this topic. :) I have only taken one yote this year that was after one of my cats behind the house. Prior to that between my brother and I two years ago on his farm outside of Nashville, TN we were lucky and took 3 during the day, 1 more late that evening which I thought unusual. It was fawning season though and we were working around a lake at his place. Just lucky that I spose. Yotes are exceedingly smart as you know, and if one gets it....most will shy away from the area. But then TN is polluted with them now.....as my area, and most of WV is becoming. I've had successful hunts more often than not but not like my brother and I had two years ago. They do not call yotes "the trickster" for nothing!;) And if I did not have my son to raise, a full time job and a farm to keep up, I would have more time to enjoy the challenges coyote hunting offers.
I wish continued good luck to you and the group you hunt with. And when your buddy gets his mount back it'll be awesome...shoot us some pics when its done please.

Just had to edit this.....I was thinking that on the day that my brother and I had so much success( and I never gave it much thought til now) although they were yotes, there was a big male around 40-45 lbs that had reddish tips on his fur, and was different than almost all the yotes I've taken or seen( he still had the snout, body and ears of a yote though). I have seen yotes with red tinges before but who is to say they were not "coydogs" ?? I know some areas in the country have had trouble with yotes intermingling with feral dogs. Just a thought.

CoyotePup, you guys do dang good bringing down the 'yotes, congrats to you and the entire group. It appears you all have alot of experience with it, without spilling your entire method of bringing them down, give us a little insight to what's your secret?

When I lived in the midwest, there was a group of guys that would drive around sections of woods until they found tracks going in and not out, then they would either send in dogs on the tracks or a couple guys and try to pinpoint where the 'yote would exit the area and they were pretty succesful. Do you do something similar, I see you guys use two way radios? Give us some insight brother!

CoyotePup 03-05-2004 02:41 PM

RE: Check out the coyote pics

Thats the way we do it but, we never send dogs in unless its a hot track ... as in we have it jumped . we shoot them with shotguns its only legal around here to use bb shot so we all carry 10ga. or 12 ga. and use bb heavy shot it kills them good .... we have been hunting them for almost 35 years ... i just started last year but i track them!

HI ALL I AM NEW TO THE BOARD. I HUNT COYOTES WITH HOUNDS. I USE RUNNING WALKERS AND RUNNING/TREEING WALKERS CROSS. THE MOST WE HAVE KILLED IN A YEAR IS 62. WE USE DOGS TO COLD TRAIL THE COYOTES TO JUMP THEM. JUST MY PERSONAL PREFERANCE, I THINK IT IS ALOT BETTER TO SEE A DOG WORK A COLD TRACK TO JUMP IT. WE HAVE REALLY BIG WOODS HERE IN NORTHERN NY, SO WE HAVE SOME NICE LONG CHASES. WELL I HOPE TO HEAR MORE RUNNING STORIES
LONNY

RE: Check out the coyote pics

I got these during a good night of calling and spotlighting. This is not uncommon in this part of Texas. We hunt them anytime year round day or night.

RE: Check out the coyote pics

Hey texasaggiebowhunter,

Like CoyotePup said, those coyotes look a whole lot different than what we're used to seeing here in the east. I hear that easterns average about 10-15 pounds heavier than what you all have... Are those yotes full grown?

texasaggiebowhunter 03-24-2004 07:31 AM

RE: Check out the coyote pics

They were a pack of pups, I called them up and shot one and the rest just sat there so i went hot on the rest of them. I have alot of pics of bigger coyotes. Those in the pic are probably some of the smallest Ive called. I would say the average coyote would be about 40-50 lbs. I have alot of pics of bobcats too.. Just this past weekend I shot a hunge one guiding a hog hunt, that was just short of knee high and maybe three feet long. Ill post that pic for you too when I scan them in.
