RE: 10/22

I bought a stainless/synthetic one a while ago and I really love it. Accurate, I think I have had 4 or 5 jams with cheap bulk ammo.

My biggest beef with it, is the weight of the trigger pull. That is the most ridiculous thing I have pulled back. I know I can get a kit up here( I forget the name of it now) that will lighten the trigger weight considerably. About $80.00 Canadian.

Other than that though, a good little gun and I do like it.

they are a great little gun. there are more accessaries for this gun that any other gun on the market. chuck403 is right about the factory trigger but there are many choices to fix this. the trigger group pops right out making them very easy to work on. mine has a 2 pound pull now and with a custom fit plunger. this makes the trigger pull very short and easy. about all you do is just wiggle the trigger no more full pulls to fire and boy does this speed up the cycle rate. go to ebay to see all the extras. they have a full section on these. ps check wal-mart they have some good prices on these.

i got a hammer and sear from rimfirecentral.com, one of the popular ones from the website sponsors. 30 bucks US. pull is around 16~20 ounces.

I agree with everyone. I also shoot rimfire bullets. I noticed the cheap lead-tip ones are the ones that will jam quite a bit. I usually use hollowpoint rounds especially when going after rabbits.

I also have the stainless/synthetic Ruger and I really like it myself. My only complaint is how often it jams, but it also depends on the quality of my ammo I guess.

What scope (if any) do you all have on your .10-.22s? I'm looking for something inexpensive and sturdy. Thanks!

My brother had a 10/22 black/wood that made me decide to get one after he sold his. Ive also shot several others, and a few stainless models. The triggers have NEVER been a problem. There not light but by no means heavy, guess there inbetween. I belive you can get a timney trigger for the 10-22. there are TONS of accessories for the ruger 10/22 and is bye far my favorite auto loading 22.

hay idredneckgirl about the only things that jam them up is a cheap or worn out mag, a dirty gun and last i would look at your ammo. i just use cheap round nose ammo federal works great. a little dirt or powder behind your extractor really screws things up. it is easy to shoot hundreds of rounds so it is a must to keep them clean.:)

I have one it started out a standard but I bought a factory synthentic for 20 buck on gun broker. I have aimpoint red-dot on it. It it the fox/limb rat killing machine. But I have to say the triggers suck. Mine has has thousands of rounds put through it. No problems jamming I love the red dot. Only way to go.

RE: 10/22

The 10/22 is an awesome little rifle. I bought mine 10 years ago and it's still going strong. The only problem I had was with the original magazine which wore out after MUCH use. The rifle started to jam all the time, and when a thorough cleaning didn't help I decided to get a new magazine to try. I'd been wanting a second mag for awhile anyway. But it turned out that that was the cause. It now functions very well. Mine prefers high velocity copper plated bullets to plain lead, but will feed lead OK. I use Winchester Super-X HV loads and it cycles them great. Very accurate too. It'll also shoot CCI Stingers really well too, which is what I use for tree rats.

As for assessories and upgrades, if you want a custom rifle and don't want to pay $2000 or more, the 10/22 is the way to go. There are dozens of companies making upgrades and aftermarket parts to replace/enhance every part of the 10/22 from the stock on up. About the only thing you'll need to buy from Ruger is the reciever, every other part can be bought from another company. And the real beauty of the 10/22 is that 99% of the upgrades and custom parts are drop in components that you can easily replace yourself, no gunsmithing required. You can spend 5 minutes replacing the stock and installing a match grade barrel, and another 30 minutes replacing the trigger group parts and you'll have a sweet shooting custom rifle.

But if you're not into that stuff, the standard 10/22 carbine is great in its stock form too. It also makes a great training rifle for kids too because if its small size and short length.

Mine was a jamming machine until I sent it back to the factory. They fixed it and it seems to work good now but I can only get 2" groups at 30 yards with it. I tried 4 different types of shells with no luck. And thats off of sand bags. I put in a bunch of after market triger accessories for it too. Oh well I cant shoot anything with it in pa anyhow!

I have just recently aquired a new 10/22 its the 40th anniversary edition it comes with a clear clip and it is a dream to shoot. i put a fixed power 4x scope on it and i can just sit there and hit dimes at 50 yards all day with CCI Stingers. I got it 1 week before the squirrel season ended here in florida and took it hunting a.s.a.p. but that morning i did not see any squirrels just a medium hog. i had 1 jam so far from a damaged shell that I put in the clip wrong it was not the guns fault. and at 50 yards with open sites i have exceptional accuracy. better than any bolt action ive shot
