I prefer a 12 gauge when hunting rabbits, gotta catch them on the run and a 22 through the guts is nasty. For squirrels i prefer a 17 hmr or a 22.

You can use a .22 on rabbits. Whenever you jump the rabbit he will run for maybe 20-50 yards. Then they ALWAYS stop and look back to see if you are still chasing them. BANG!!!!! There's your perfect shot on a good rabbit. You may have to chase 'em about 20yards before they stop so you can get a clear shot and know where they stopped. Good luck. Oh yea, i use a 12 GA. Pump on my squirrels. I don't shoot until i can take at least 2-3 at one time. My MOSS. 835 blows them out of the tree

I hunt with a 22 mag. I prefer CCI hollow points or Rem. V-max. They both shoot very large holes but I allways shoot for the head so there is no meat ruined. If you are worried about meat damage try the CCI TMJ (total metal jacket). I dont shoot these because anytime you shoot a full metal jacket you have a larger chance of ricochet but they are very accurate and will get the job done.
