I am a green horn,with the up coming breed cycle what would be a good call to use,and what is the best time to call,,daybreak or the evening hours..Thanks...:)..

TOTOE, personally I like to call them at daybreak. Some do it at night, but visibility is obviously an issue and unless you have snow on the ground and a full moon, you need a light. I've called in a lot of foxes with a light, but only 1 coyote.

I like to use a rabbit call. However, last bow season I was messing around blowing a fawn bleat and one came screaming in. Never got a shot.

I'm going to my farm in Braxton county in a week or 2 to try and call some of the little buggers in. Can't wait!

For most areas, the early morning or late eve. should both be good, but I've found that if it is cold, any time of day will produce. With the breeding season coming on, now is the time to play with howlers. You can use a howler at the beginning of your set, but be ready, because it may produce a yote just as fast as a distress call does, not always, but it can happen so be ready.What I do is, give out two or three long lone howls and then wait for about three minutes, they may or may not answer, if they do, howl again, once and wait another 2 or 3 minutes, if they don't answer, go ahead and begin a series of distress calls, just like normal, for 10 to 15 minutes, keeps your eyes peeled, gun ready, and be alert.LOL!

I really rely on my howler at this time of year.The alfa male is really guarding his territory now and won't tolerate competition for his mate. Anytime you can get out and do some calling is a good time to go,but at first light and the following couple of hours in the morning and the last couple of hours before dark is the magic time.

i find that early morning is most productive but late afternoon is also productive.a howler is a very important part of calling coyotes this time of year,don't leave home without one.

My favorite is in the evening, when everything is usually calm.

I agree with probtrapper, anytime is a good time. I have had good results both early and late, but my best results have been at night with a red filter lense on a cordless spotlight. Some places you cant use a light to aide in hunting so you better be sure its legal before you try it in your area.
