I-80 and coyotes

I live near I-80 and I was wondering if a coyote will cross it, even though theres a ton of traffic all the time.

I-80 is about the same as I-90 across new york, two very busy highways.my job requires me to run I-90 on a regular basis.in all the years i have been doing this i can count on one hand the number dead coyotes i have seen on that highway.there can be only two reasons for this, theres not that many coyotes there or it(the highway)becomes a territory line.across centrol new york i believe its a little of both.in your part of PA i'm not sure of the cercumstances but it may be the same way.they deffinetly don't like or want to cross busy toll roads.

RE: I-80 and coyotes

A couple of years ago I was coming out of a ranch that I had been doing some control work on. The ranch road at this point paralleled I5 highway. I looked to my right and here is a big male coyote about 150 yards running towards the highway! "well",seys I, I'll just drop back a little here and let you cross in front of me 'cause there's a six foot highway fence that I'am sure you can't get under and even if you could you've got to know yould never make it across four lanes of traffic alive.
Now you (the reader) must understand, I've got this all figured out. When he gets to the highway he'll have to turn back and cross in front of me and I'll drill him when he's safetly on my left away from the highway. WRONG....This son of a gun runs down the fence for about a quarter of a mile and dives into a culvert that has some brush growing around it that I didn't even know was there. That culvert ran compleatly under the freeway and out the other side. By the number of tracks in the sand on the bottom of the culvert this wasen't his first rodeo using this method to get across this very busy highway.

A few years ago the eastern half of Pa had a pretty big snowstorm. I was driving 80 and saw a coyote in the wooded patch between the east and west bound lanes. I don't know if the snow was forcing him to hunt harder or if crossing was a normal routine.

I pulled into my companys parking lot one morning and thought I saw a dog it was a coyote after the garbage and he went thru a sluice pipe to get out of there under a highway so I bet a lot of the smart ones use the pipes that go under the highways <img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>
