2022 Squirrel Count Thread
 

Alright, time to sign up and start posting pictures. We have some members with almost year around squirrel seasons. . The contest will run until the end of the year, and next January we will start the new years contest. Anyone can sign up anytime. We had allot of squirrels entered in this past contest, allot of participation. Hope to see another good year here. Invite your friends. Same as before, Any DEAD Squirrel, by any legal methods. Post a picture of your squirrel, preferably with gun/bow for it to be counted. If you need to skin them before you can get a picture, just post the skinned ones. As more sign up, I'll add them to the teams! Also If anyone has youth hunters that are not members of the site, but would like to be in the contest, just Pm me and we'll add them with you on your team. We've had this in the past a few times and have had some PMs asking about it. Signups and score will be posted in the second post on this thread. Jrbsr was the 2021 "champ" with 37 squirrels.

Got out to local public ground this morning.

One little red squirrel seen.

Killed 3 this morning.

Got them added. I'll either be out Monday or Wednesday this week..

Rained all morning today.

Wednesday is supposed to be almost ninety so probably going to be too warm for me.

Big temperature drop today. Windy and rainy but I got out for two hours this morning. Got rained on, but the wind was the biggest issue.

Managed to see two and get one nice fox squirrel.

Nice fox Boca. I got one gray this evening. Beautiful weather, light north winds. Seen a few more just never got a shot at them.

I'm thinking of heading out sometime tomorrow with my BMR.

A couple public land chunks in north east Ohio.

I'll get over to Pennsylvania a couple times this year too hopefully.

Just one gray this evening. Should of had 2 or 3 more. Scope was off 4 inches. I don't know why this keeps happening. I try very hard not to bump the scope. Frustrating.

Seen a few more. Used my new squirrel in distress call . It sounds like a coyote call . And it made a pack of yotes howl.

I haven't used any squirrel calls in years. When I was a teenager I used a Lohman squirrel in distress whistle. And that really seemed to get the squirrels barking during early season. The one I have now sounds like a coyote call. Oh well. Beautiful day. Light south winds. Highs in lower 60s

One gray this morning. Died with a nut in its mouth. Seen several other squirrel. Got within 8 ft of a porcupine. Happy October everyone! My favorite month.

2 grays this evening. Should bring my total to 10.

Killed 2 this evening. A fat red , and a mature boar gray. Got busted by a couple more and never got a shot @ them. The gray I shot in the head right before sunset, almost 50 ft high up in a red oak 30 yards away. That got my blood pumpin. I love seeing them fall down from way up high with a resounding thump. This should bring my total to an even dozen.

Killed 2 this morning. Saw my first Fox of the season and got her. My total should be @ 15 now.

It's been awhile. Brought my pellet gun with me today while deer hunting. Killed 2 grays. My total is 17.

One red today

My laptop went down. Hard to edit and update on the cell phone.

I may have found a new spot while deer hunting yesterday.

Running out back for the last hour of daylight with the ten year old now!

Spent 13 hours in the woods this weekend. Only saw one squirrel.

Went to a better public property today. Beautiful outside. Killed 2

Typical land in my area.

Big farm fields with blocks of woods..

Anything that isn't farmed is swamp.

Kinda sounds like where I grew up in south central MN.
