Coyote Success!

1 Attachment(s)
A few years ago while deer hunting on a very cold, quiet morning, a coyote just happened to be on the move about 60 yards from me. She paused to navigate a fence and since I was on a friend's farm, I took the shot. Needless to say, the farmer was happy.

I finally got around to dedicate some time to coyote hunting this year and with the help from many of the tips found on this forum from you guys, got myself set up with a caller, decoy, red flashlights, etc.

On Tuesday night, we were able to call in a decent sized female on my own property (after about 20 mins of rabbit in distress, and then 10 mins of coyote calls) and successfully dropped her from just over 100 yards with a Rock River Arms LAR .223 varmint rifle.

IT WAS AWESOME! My son (he's 18) was so excited! We're heading out again tonight for round two :)

Anyway - thanks to everyone that posted up all of the tips, suggestions, guidance, do's, don'ts, etc - it was / is very much appreciated!

Dan

p.s. - sorry - I know the thread is BS without pics :). I will try to upload shortly...

Congrats! Sounds like a fun hunt and a good time with your son. Nice looking song dog also. :D

Thank you - that was definitely a lot of fun! My son really enjoyed it and is learning a lot as well.

Good job. Now you've got a fun hunt to do year round.

It's also allot easier to gain access to hunt yotes typically. It can open up some new properties for you to hunt

Nice one

Thanks! Coyote season in NY ends March 31st, but will start up again October 1st. Definitely going to take advantage of that.

Thanks Jake! I agree; the dairy farmer across the street already asked me to do what I can to help control the population around his property :)
