Default My Year Of Predator Hunting (32 Coyotes, 1 Bobcat)

I don't engage in a lot of predator hunting. Most of the predators I shoot are opportunistic kills while hog hunting or as an after thought when there are no hogs around. I still managed a goodly number of coyotes killed, plus 1 bobcat assist, all by landowner request for predator removal. Shots ranged out to 240 yards, but most were closer to 100 yards. The largest coyote I killed came in at 37.5 lbs.

Nice. What rifle and caliber were you using?

I use a 6.5 Grendel AR15. It is a hodge-podge of bits and pieces, but it has an AR Performance 18" barrel and a Superlative Arms piston system. Most of this year, I have been shooting Federal American Eagle Speer TNT 90 gr ammo but also really like Hornady SST 123 gr. I think I switched over from Hornady around April.

You've been cleaning up. I often pick off a Fox at the end of a Deer or Hog hunt. My best year was 22 Fox.

A few years back we got a letter asking all hunters to thin the Fox population to slow the spread of Echinococcus Multilocularis, Fox Band Worm. I made the mistake of reading up on Fox Band Worm and started handling dead Fox like toxic waste. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Echino...multilocularis
