2015-2016 Predator Contest
Ok guys, there's been some interest for a predator contest this year. The forum has had one in years past, so I figured I'd start it again and see what happens. I'm recycling the old rules. If anyone has suggestions throw them out there. Post your interest in signing up. Hopefully we can get 10 or so on here. Thanks to my7pointmonster for the recycled rules here.
Rules Must post a picture with the kill including your weapon and a sign that says "15-16" Must be taken by legal means Contest starts October, 2015 and will end March 31, 2016 Scoring Mountain Lion-50 Bear- 50 Bobcat- 35 Fisher- ?? Coyote-25 Fox(red/kit/gray)-20 Badger- 15 Raccoon-10 Opossum-10 Scoring is done PER animal, so if you kill 3 foxes that's 60 points; 2 raccoon's that's 20 And so on. I can't really think of much else, should be an awesome season, I'm looking forward to see what happens with this. Anyone has any other ideas on how to improve this or anything that should be taken into consideration then just let me know I'll make sure I add it. -Jake If you want in on the action, Post your name. 1. I'm fine with just the animal and the gun I hate taking selfies when I hunt alone

I'm in Pensacola, Florida. Man I just got a coyote last week November 17th and also a raccoon but no picture of me in it because I hunt solo. I have the gun in the photo but not me. I am fine with D80. Checking the date I shot the coon. Shot the coon on 11/02 here is it from my local forum. Sorry for not having the firearm in the pic for the coon I took her with the one that is in the picture with the coyote

For those who already have predator kills if you can post the picture of the kill and a weapon preferably I'll score them since I am late starting this off. Honor system here guys. This is all for fun, just a place to share hunting pictures and such. We'll see how this season goes and maybe adjust rules and the contest next year if we get good interest. Also if anybody has any suggestions feel free to post or message me.

I'm in nomercy448.
Hopefully I can get away from work and keep the kid happy enough to get out a few times. Few thoughts on Rules for future contests:
If not obvious - THIS IS NOT A SUBMISSION FOR THE CURRENT CONTEST!!!
Just a few thoughts, take them for what you paid for them. |
Nomercy, thanks for the tips. I'll add badgers, and raise bobcats. I simply copy and pasted these rules from a previous years contest. My first thought was "bobcats should be worth more.." so I'll make that change. Thanks.
What does everyone think about a sign with a cacthphrase? This would be a simple idea. Anyone object? and if we like it, whats should the catchphrase be? Thanks for the patience folks. This was a last second idea, it's my first time running this contest, and first year since 2011(I think) that huntingnet has had a predator contest. So it's a work in progress. -Jake |

I'm fine with that and I agree this is gonna be fun

Rules updated for paper saying "15-16" bear added.

Ya that's good. As long as we can read it

I have a few questions I do most my predator hunting at night is it okay to wait till day light to take the pictures? And my next one is let's say I get 7 coyotes 5 raccoons 3 foxes and a couple of opossums in one day can I take a picture of all of them at once with the guns I use or does it have to be one picture for each animal killed?
|
As long as the picture is clear whats there. So if it's a pile and I can't count whats there that's no good. But as long as it's clear in the picture and the "15-16" sign is there it's good.
-Jake |
Ok thank you and they won't be piled up I like keeping everything organized lol
|
What else should be added to the list? PA has a Fisher season, you cant take 1 per year. What would a good score be for that? Any other animals that should be added?
-Jake |
Indiana has a skunk season
|
I'm not sure what all we define as predators. Or maybe this should be a predator/nuisance/trapping contest? Ex. PA has porcupine season. 3/day. Last few years I've taken several. They aren't predators, but should things like this be scored? Any input is appreciated.
-Jake |
I don't know if it's classified as a predator either lol I just know they have the same season as predators in Indiana
|
It ain't my show, but I wouldn't necessarily include Opossums, nor skunks. Nor beaver, bunnies, squirrels, gophers, pdogs, wood/pack rats, etc.
Most tolks tender "predator hunting" to game that can be called. You can call bears, lions, wolves, bobs, lynx, coyote, fox, badgers, and coons. I'd suppose weasel types like a fisher would come in, maybe, heck if I know, we don't really have them to speak of in KS - I reckon wolverines would come in too, but I've never seen them on a predator contest. So, I suppose the question is more towards - is it a predator calling contest, or a furbearing contest. My cousin and I have a trapline full of skunks that could add up REAL QUICK :poke: |
I say strictly calling predators so it will be an even playing field for the guys that have to hunt public land, like myself.... Wish I could shoot foxes.. I literally call one in on every stand here in Florida.
|
no gun but I have a picture showing when I texted it to my buddy. Now I know the rules I will add a 2015-16 sign and add the gun. |
Not successful yet on any coyotes I did call in a huge grey fox. I swear he/she looked like a small dog. Had to sit there and watch him/her at 20 yards  I'm going to stat bringing a camera along to take a picture of all the foxes I call in lol
|
Am I too late to join the fun?
|
Nope you're in BHW. Just post a picture with a card "15-16" attached. Stack them up!

Raccoon Down
I didn't have a paper so I stratched 2015-2016 on the fallen tree |
Lots of unplanned work travel and a couple illnesses put me out of most of this fur season, but at least I'm getting on the board.
Took the boy out for his first coon hunt last night (he's 2 1/2yoa), he got a little cranky by the end of the night, but he had a lot of fun tromping through the creek and watching the dogs work. All he's been talking about today is finding more "toons." The boy was a lot more interested in checking out the coons than being photogenic. 2 dropped with my Ruger Mark II stainless, one by my bro-in-law with his Mark III, treed up by his Treeing Walker Hound. The 3rd one we got his 6mo old bluetick b!tch out and let her do a little apprenticing. |
