Congrats to you and I hope many more are getting the same fate as this one did..

that's awesome. Congrats. Were you targeting wolf, or just had one respond while trying to call coyotes? What sounds did you use? Tell us more about it. Did he come chargin' in, or what?

Maybe a white tail in this case

Thanks guys! We were targeting wolf. This was the first guided wolf trip we've done. (WI opened up last year) I followed that particular pack for about a month prior to season. I cracked a couple coyote howls and then waited a few minutes...then started a cottontail in distress and about a minute later she came flying out of the woods. Definitely one of the best hunts I've ever been a part of.

About how many you think in that pack?

Too cool man. I've put down a lot of predators, but I haven't knocked down a wolf yet. Working hard on the wife to convince her to go next winter before something goes south and the hippies force the hunting to stop again.

How big of span did that pack cover during the month you tracked them? Or what is typical for packs in your area there in WI?

b_stricker12 10-24-2013 05:43 PM

My guess would be 5-10 just judging by the different sets of tracks I've seen in a small sand pit near where we were hunting. I guess I didn't really "track" them, but I kept close tabs on the sign around that farm and I set up where there seemed to be almost daily activity.
It seems they like they stick in a smaller area up here, my guess would be around 3 square miles...maybe because it is almost strictly big woods with the exception of a farm here and there.
I have 2 hunters coming in tomorrow and 4 more next week. Hopefully I'll have more pictures to share!

Congratulations! That's awesome. I got drawn for a wolf tag in MN this year, I can't wait. We've been seeing more wolf than deer lately.

We didn't get the chance to do anymore hunting. It was supposed to be a 5 month season, but we hit the quota for our zone after 13 days. I think their counts were a little bit off.
