The A-max or SST are great bullets as well, a little "harder" construction, but definitely effective on game. I'm of the opinion that "in general", the longer distance I'm shooting, the "softer" constructed bullet I can get away with. Up close, frangible bullets will tend to be extremely explosive, and can blow REALLY big exit wounds out the back end, but at longer ranges when they've had time to slow down a bit, they'll give "optimum" expansion, balancing trauma against pelt damage. Now, that's not to say that a frangible WILL cause a lot of pelt damage up close (and I mean CLOSE), but it's a possibility. On the other hand, at long range, a harder bullet like an SST or Interbond will behave more like an FMJ, since they don't have the velocity left to properly expand (and I mean LONG RANGE). This means they might be more apt to lose one since the trauma will be low.
So ruining a pelt up close is more likely with a frangible, and losing a dog is more likely at long range with a "harder" bullet. But ultimately, the V-max and A-max are either bound of the "middle ground" and are very close to "ideal" for any range.

Hornady V-Maxx in either 50grn or 40grn, DEVASTATING!!!!!! Then we have the Winchester Ballistic Tips in either 40 or 50grn, same thing as above. Have to find out what your rifle will prefer over the other.
