If I only had one choice to use for both of them, it would be peanut butter.

Another vote for peanut butter, although you'll mostly get coons this way. The coons seem to love PB. Squirrels have been tough to live trap. They're smart. I've watched them reach through the bars and pull my bait out before, tricky lil fellas.

Best bait you could use for coons is sardines. Just barely crack the lid and they can't get much out. Then you can keep using a can over n over. If they eat a little out or it dries up just peel the lid back a little more. I've caught 3 to 4 coons on 1 can of sardines. If you were using foot traps I have a great set for coons.... Never heard of someone trapping squirels before....Unless they were just trying to get em outta their yard. Can't help you there.

Maybe put a board around the sides of the live-trap so the Squirrels can't reach thru or go under it...?I've always used corn to trap squirrels...maybe use the corn that is still on the cob in the very back end of the trap, that way they have to go inside to get the corn off?

I have had lots of succes trapping coons with canned tuna fish, I swear by that stuff.
For squrriles peanut butter defiantly works the best for me. Good luck!
