Coyote hunting, whatcha do with em'?

I bought a new Bushmaster AR-15 chambered in .204 Ruger about 6 months ago. Shot it once and after thinking about it I'm gonna put a nice scope on it and set it up as a coyote gun. At $20 per box of 20 rounds it don't make sense to blast through a 30 round clip in a matter of 10 seconds just playing around. We always hear coyotes out at the family farm and a friends farm so we've been talking about coyote hunting for a while. My question is what do you guys do with them? Do you get enough out of the fur to justify gutting and skinning it?

I give them to a Pacific Islander I work with, he eats them.

Raw pelt isn't worth much. 8-10 bucks for a good one, most are not good.

I'm in SoCal and even in the "winter" the pelts aren't worth much !

I kill'em to protect the local game population on my hunting club.................

BTW - I was using my .204 boltgun on predator stands, but just got a AR in .223 to use as a walking stick.

I will leave them for the critters. They gotta eat too!!! :party0005:

I give them to the local Trappers and they skin them and sell the hides,I'll probably save me a nice one this Fall/Winter and have it mounted or skinned out and tanned to hang on the wall.

I just bought me a CZ-USA .204 "Varmint" with the heavy barrel for Coyote Hunting....I sighted it in this past Labor Day weekend using a Leupold 3X9X40mm QDM Rifleman scope in matte black using the Hornady V-max 40 grain bullets and its on-target and ready for some Coyotes! :D ;)

Congrats GTO on your new rig !

Sounds like a great set-up..............i use those 40 gr. V-max bullets in my .204 for coyotes and love the results !!!

I sell the ones that have good winter pelts, and leave the mangy ones behind for the crows and turkey buzzards to dine on.
To sell the pelt, you don't have to gut the coyote, simply tube them out.

I sell mine in the round and don't mess with skinnin'.

Thanks for the replys everyone. My original thoughts were leaving it for the other critters as stated above but figured I'd check. Sounds like I won't bother with them unless I get a nice one to hang on hte wall. Anyone have a link for a "do it yourself" pelt tanning thread/website? Thanks again.

Some good Info on skinning on both these.

Like others have said, let the other critters eat or if the landowner don't want them left behind, I feed them to the hogs. They love them!!!!
Thats what we do with our deer bones, trapping carcasses, and carp from our bowfishing trips. Hogs hear our trucks coming, its like the ice cream truck to kids!!!!!!!!
