Again, When is it safe to eat them???

Do you have to wait till it gets cold? do they have worms? Just asking. Thanks.

ive never seen one but ive heard of a parasite that squirrels get called wolves. Evidently it gets under the skin and causes a lump, usually they are gone after the first frost. I dont know if they hurt the squirrel, ive heard some people say they cut around them, some just toss the squirrel.

sc's response was good. The parasite lump under the fir can get to be half dime in diameter-At least I've seen many this size. One parasite per lump.I've cut into one one time and they are similar to bot fly larvae. If a lump is noiticeable-warm or cold weather-I toss the critter.I don't dispute cutting a larger area around the parasite to salvage the rest.Others have told me thats what they've done.
