baiting for coyotes? HELP!!

Has anyone ever baited for coyotes? Some one told me today that you can use road kill deer for coyote bait! There is nothing in our hunting guide that prohibits this.....sooo has anyone ever done this and how?

ya drag it out there cut its stomach come back 4 or 5 days later and sit in the dark on a full moon or with a spotlight

Thanks! I'm gonna try it! Lord knows we have plenty of bait on the side of the roads here and alot of dogs!!

Dont cut the stomach open......you can put a few openings in the rib cage with a ax also make sure to stake the deer down,or you can cut up the deer and freeze it in a bucket of water.

Anything works for bait, Road kill is the best, butcher scraps (especially in deer season), dead farm animals. the more the better!!

try your local slaughter house sometimes they have scraps.

Make sure you check with your local CW about picking up roadkill for bait. I thought of doing this a couple of years back and if I remember right, picking up a roadkill deer for coyote bait is illegal here in WI, but I'm not 100% on that. If you find out for sure let us know, or if someone else knows, please enlighten me.

You are right! Found out it is illegal!! State of MI doe's not allow anyone to remove road kill from the side of the roads. That really sucks! Guess I'll have to borrow my friends car and go run over a few! That way I won't wreck mine and I can get a tag for it! HA!HA! Thanks for bringing that up!

That doesn't make too much sense now does it? The animals were going to eat them anyway!!

My guess is it has something to do w/ people hauling around untagged/unregistered deer, or stopping on the side of the road and putting themselves in danger for a dead deer. Lots of other viable options were suggested, but I agree, I was a bit surprised to find out it was illegal.
