Another vote for peanut butter, it's unbeatable.

I was a trapper for years and never found a better bait for coons.

Also does not draw cats to the trap like the fish type baits do.

On the other hand if you also wish to be rid of the cats........fish is the way to go for both......but hides of cats are worthless...LOL.

throwing grape cool aid powder form all around the live trap helps bring them in also because it has a strong scent and they love that grape flavor

i've found that peanut butter brings in possums more so than coons. when we were in college we used to trap squirrels during the day with peanut butter in a rat trap and spray paint em gold. we did this for a few months almost every single day to a few squirrels. it was at the point where almost every squirrel you saw on campus was gold, but once we switched to anything with fish we got coons.

tuna fish has a stronger scent make sure to not get rid of the oil in the can just sprinkle it all over the trap and make sure theres a nice breeze near it, and coons will come guranteed. we used to spray paint those guys as well.

get ya a 2 liter bottle,
take the wrapper off so its mostly clear,
tie it to a tree, cut a small slice in the bottle, down by the bottom where its harder.. just big enough to put a shinny quarter in,
(put the quarter in it)..
hang it where the quarter is sittin at the mouth of the bottle, so the coon can see it....
when ya come back in the mornin, he will be tryin to get away,
but he wont let go of that 25 cents

what works down here is dog/cat food, bacon grease ( on napkin or paper towel is fine ) and egg shells and corn.
