What size choke and buckshot for coyotes?
I just posted a thread about coyote hunting which i'm new to and i'm also new to using chokes and buckshot with a shotgun. What size choke and buckshot combination would you guys use for a 12ga shotgun that shoots 2 3/4 inch shells for coyotes.

I'm no expert on the subject since I haven't actually hunted with any buckshot loads yet (I'm guessing I won't be an expert then either) but I have shot several rounds through mine. Buy a couple different boxes of #4 buck and try each through the different chokes you have available to see which yields the most consistent pattern. Of the shells I've shot, they seemed to perform the best out of my factory full choke and my turkey choke was a close runner up. Cheap Remingtons held a tight enough pattern for a lethal shot at 50y for me out of my Mossberg. (I was shooting 3" shells though)
You'll just need to experiment to see what combo gives you the tightest pattern rw |
Thanks, I figured that's what i'd have to do i just wanted peoples opinions

I would use you full choke and get a few different brands and sizes of buckshot.I personaly dont shoot over 40 yards with buchshot (deer use though). What gun are you shooting?

A remington wingmaster 870 12ga, it can shoot 2 3/4 inch shells

I got an 870 express and it has a good pattern with winchester super x 2 3/4 #1 buck.

Do you use a choke?
|
Oh lol yea I use the full choke.

I like the Federal #5 turkey loads. I've only ever shot the 3", but they are devastating.
It all boils down to your gun. |
Coyotes are tough critters.I wouldn't use anything less than BB.#4 buck is a great choice. You need to pattern your gun to find the best load/choke.Here's the proverbial S-load of such doin's-
