20ga vs Coyote

Just got a 20ga Nova and will be trying it out on coyotes.Anyone w/20ga experiance, input would be helpfull. From another sight I've been told #2 HD waterfowel loads would be a good 20ga load.Just ordered a Jellyhead(.570) and will get a Pure Gold or Indian Creek(.555) soon.I like #4buck in a 12,but thats not available in the 20,only #3.

I'm not a fan of the waterfowl loads for coyote. The steel shot goes through and does very little damage often they run often and die some where else. Personally I prefer a good high brass lead load using 2's or larger. I personally prefer buckshot.

Lead only - buck shot in close......................dead dog !

how far out would buckshot be effective on a coyote?

Right choke........................50 yards.

Id limit my shots with buckshot to 40 yards.

What's wrong with using slugs ? They do work really well , and no they don't leave huge holes in the hide any bigger than a lot of centerfires. I actually shot one about 5 years ago with a rifled slug and it never exited the coyote shot was about 60 yds.

i wouldt hesitate hunting with those loads. pattern it and see how it does. if it patterns good i would feel compfortable with a 30 or 40 yard shot. you could buy 3inch #1 buck or #3buck and get a little more range maybe. i have seen yotes killed with high brass #6s before.
