Summertime coyotes

Here in Illinois we can coyote hunt year-round. How many of you hunt them this time of year?

Obviously, the woods are thick, the corn is over my head, and ticks and chiggers will be looking at me like a buffet, but my bud and I were thinking about trying it. He's got a new shotgun and I have a new rifle and we're both itching to shoot at something. We were thinking about doing a little calling one morning before hanging some treestands.

What are good calls to use this time of year? Pup sounds? Fawn distress? Or will my whimpering from the mixture of poison ivy an mosquito bites be enough to lure a coyote?

id say pup in distress calls would work as well as your rabbit in distress calls in big open field. if your wheat is cut those fields would be great. ive seen a few yotes in wheat fields since they cut ours a couple weeks ago

Pup sounds should still work but I prefer to start with a howl or two then commense the screaming. Cottontail distress sounds are great year round. Limit your hunting to the first hour of daylight and get close to the thick stuff where they should be denning. Good Luck.

All good comments........................

You can hunt a little later now as they have more mouths to feed.

Set-up in good cover.

Almost all the yotes I kill in the summer time are over cut fields. Easy hunting on crippled rabbits and mice. I don't call as much as when its cold. Mouse squeaks and rabbit squeeler.
