I have a pair of Remington pump rifle that were made for these shotshells years ago. I was about 7-10 yrs old, I am 47 now, and we used these rifles at the local sportsmen club to shoot Mo-Skeet targets. They are similar to regular clay birds but 1/2 size and weight. Would break them really well at about 15-25 feet with these rifles. They have a .22 bore for about 10 inches then open up to approx. .410 bore and have a choke in the muzzle. Pretty nasty on rats out to about 25 feet with the CCI shotshells. Killled a copperhead in our garage without blowing out the side. Had to hit him 3 times, but it worked and was better than a 12ga!!!!!!!! Have not seen these rifles in years and am sure they are worth a buck or 2. I know the Mo-Skeet targets are worthy also. I know someone who has 2 cases of these targets left over from those days and has been offered $5 apiece, per target!!!!!

Crimp type .22 shot shells are very bad for the rifling in your barrel. The shot is travelling down the barrel unsupported, so it essentially sandblasts the bore.
.22LR shotshells like the CCI Shotshells are a much better option. The shot cup protects the bore during firing.
As others have mentioned, .22lr shotshells are a very limited range option for small game. When I was a kid we used CCI shotshells to clear pigeons out of our barns, the shot wouldn't penetrate the roofing tin. Again, that's at a range between 10-20ft.
